Style Swap: (Duchess of Cambridge) Catherine (Kate) Middleton

via People StyleWatch

As an aspiring stylist and lover of all things fashion I often spend my time day-dreaming about gaining access to the closet's of many celebs and Katherine Middleton is no exception. The Princess (or technically the Duchess) has a style so classic and chic that I am forced to take a double take every time I see a photograph of her. I first fell in love with Kate's style when I saw a photo of her in the royal blue Issa dress that she wore when the happy couple announced their engagement. Upon seeing the lovely piece I was immediately taken back by its simple, effortless elegance- traits that I strive to incorporate into my own personal style. Kate's casual looks also never disappoint, further being proven during her and William's recent "Royal Tour". Whether she was sporting her feminine yellow "Primrose Dress" or showing off her rowing skills in Sebago boats shoes and a Nike windbreaker she always managed to look put together and beautiful.

Although not all of us have the money to spend on designer duds we can still dress like Kate by investing in some classic well tailored pieces like blazers, shift dresses, lady like skirts, well fitting jeans and shoes in neutral colors. By mixing and matching these essentials we can all face the world in true Royal fashion!

Summer Playlist

Pitbull in Allison's Car
As silly as it may sound, one of my favorite summer activities is driving around with my friends and listening to music. Sometimes we have a destination (the mall, movies, beach) and sometimes we just drive around until we find a place worth stopping in to. The key to finding the perfect summer playlist is mixing it up- current, alternative and those crazy songs you can rely on only some of your in tune friends to have on their Ipods. Although I do not consider myself an avid fan of the mainstream music that seems to be dominating so much of the radio these days I can't deny that it's fun to listen to, and seriously who doesn't love a good Ke$ha song- throw some glitter make it rain? Apart from the top hits a perfect summer playlist should also include songs that make you think of bike riding or spending all day at the beach- Jack Johnson, Death Cab for Cutie and Eric Hutchinson do the trick for me. So here's to enjoying what's left of summer and wasting time driving around with the people you love most!

Travel Tales: London

via Sarah Koltova

This past June I was lucky enough to take a trip to a place I have always dreamed of going to, London. Although the trip was mostly about looking at potential colleges I want to apply to, specifically King's College, which is my absolute dream school, we did find some time to explore the city and take comfort in sampling some classic British fare like Fish & Chips. London has always been a place I have felt a strange connection to and when I first stepped out of the airport I finally understood why. Hidden beneath the overcast clouds is an absolutely breathtaking city with interesting people and a history that dates back hundreds of years. My favorite thing about the city was the cosmopolitan vibe- millions of people from all different ethnic backgrounds living together in a peaceful coexistence- similar to NYC. While there, I had the opportunity to visit sights like London Bridge, The Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abby and most importantly Buckingham Palace which was an absolute dream- truly breathtaking. The Palace screamed royalty and all I could think about while I stood in front of it was the beautiful wedding that took place just a few months earlier... I think you all know which one I am referring to.

In addition to taking in the sights and sounds of London we also had the opportunity to visit Windsor, a lovely English Borough that houses Windsor Castle, the offical residence of the Queen! Although I was not lucky enough to catch a glimpse of any royals,  I did have time to stop into a gift shop and pick up some tea for my best friend Allison commemorating the recent Royal nuptials as well as enjoy the company of some adorable British boys (another reason why London is so appealing). Overall, my trip to London confirmed that it's definitely a place I can see myself studying and living and has made me even more excited about applying to colleges there (with any luck this time next year I will be getting ready to make my move across the pond!)

Let's Talk Polos

Since polos are obviously a large part of this blog (hence the tittle) and a classic preppy essential I thought it was only fitting to start with a post about the best polos brands around. I myself love a great polo and strongly believe that they add a lot of style to any outfit. When hunting for a perfect polo I always keep my eye out for three things: style, cut and fit. A great polo should not only be flattering but compliment your personal taste... once you find the polo that's right for you the only thing left to do is buy one in every color!

Best Polo Brands

LACOSTE

This classic French brand never disappoints especially with their dynamic polos. Whether you are looking for the classic two button, modern five button or a long sleeve number you can be sure that you are investing in a true wardrobe staple... and who doesn't love the cute little alligator logo?

RALPH LAUREN

To me, no brand screams American Prep quite like Ralph Lauren. Like Lacoste, Ralph Lauren polos are a true classic that come in various fits and styles (my favorite being the classic fit which can be found at many retailers on sale!) You can invest confidently in these tops while being sure that they will never go out of style.

VINEYARD VINES

Ahh, Vineyard Vines a brand that offers all things preppy and east coast. If you are in the market for good quality and relatively affordable styles, Vineyard Vines is the best place to go polo shopping. Plus the whale logo is enough to make me want to ditch the car and spend all day biking through the vineyard.
